Highly-Efficient Communications Infrastructures

Expressways and Motorways

Greater Nancy is served by a large number of roadways, which offer fast connections to all of Europe's major cities:

- The A31 (E21) connects Northern Europe to Spain, via Lyons and Marseilles

-

The A4 (E50/E25) connects Paris to Berlin, Stuttgart and Vienna

-

The N4 expressway connects Paris to Strasbourg.

Airports

- The Metz-Nancy-Lorraine Regional Airport offers 7 regular lines to France's major cities as well as charter connections, primarily to Mediterranean countries. It can be reached in 30 minutes from the city centre, the most convenient option being the regular shuttle service. In 2005, it served 355 000 passengers. The 2 500-mettre runway is currently being extended to 3 050 m, so as to  be able to serve jumbo airplanes.

-

One hour from Nancy by motorway, the Luxembourg International Airport puts Greater Nancy within close reach of all of Europe’s and the world's cities.

-

Located a few minutes from Downtown Nancy, the Nancy-Essey Airport complements the other air travel options by specialising in business travel.

Railways

Nancy is located at the crossroads between two major rail lines: Paris-Strasbourg and Benelux-Mediterranean. The arrival of the TGV in 2007 has put downtown Nancy 90 minutes from Paris. To prepare for the arrival of the high-speed train, Nancy's train station is being refurbished to the most recent standards.
The Lorraine Region also intends to build a TGV interconnecting station, which allow Nancy residents to travel to London, Nantes or Bordeaux without transit in Paris, or reach Roissy Airport in just 1 hour and 15 minutes.

At the local level, the regional express trains (TER) make over 35 round-trips daily. Operating every 30 minutes during rush hour, the TER connects Nancy with other regional urban hubs.
The express regional train, Metrolor, offers, several times per day, regular connections between Nancy and Luxembourg, via Metz. 30 minutes are needed to reach Metz, and 45 to get to Luxembourg.

Waterways

Nancy is at the intersection between two international merchandise transport routes : the English Channel-Eastern Europe and Northern Europe-Mediterranean. Nancy's waterways connect directly with 2 major European ports : Antwerp and Rotterdam.

The Port of Nancy-Frouard has been accessible by Rhineland-dimension vessels (3,000 tonnes) and added to its heavy parcel capacity in 2000. It is now capable of handling large industrial parts and masses up to 320 tonnes. It continues to invest and has just outfitted two new platforms, spanning 6,000 m˛ and 5,000 m˛, respectively. Intent on ensuring sustainable development, the port has made renovations to limit pollution from disposal into the aquatic environment. With total traffic of 2.6 million tonnes per year, it is one of France's leading river ports for grains and carbon materials, which account for 80% of its operations.

Thanks to the Port of Nancy-Frouard, Nancy's metropolitan area has opened its doors to the global freight market.

In 2004, total traffic through the Port of Frouard came to 1,084,000 tonnes.
France's 4th river port for solid mineral fuel unloaded, with 475,000 tonnes
France's 4th river port for agricultural products unloaded, with 403,000 tonnes
