Things are really moving in Nancy!
After 1999, the year of the "Ecole de Nancy’s" 100th Anniversary, Greater Nancy celebrated, in 2005, the 250th anniversary of Place Stanislas, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. All year long, exhibits, shows, live urban events and conferences were held, with the "Age of Enlightenment" as the uniting theme. An agenda overflowing with events, along with several 17th century heritage restoration programmes, including re-fitting Place Stanislas as a pedestrian-only zone. In addition to that exceptional event, many exciting happenings are planned each year, forming Nancy's cultural riches:
| - |
Nancy Jazz Pulsation (NJP), a jazz and world music festival takes place each year in October. For two weeks, the biggest names in jazz will be in town, alongside the greatest in blues and soul music. The festival's sounds can be heard far beyond the tent set up in La Pépinière Park: concerts take to the streets, ringing out in the neighbourhoods and enlivening the city’s streets and cafés. |
| - |
Le Livre sur la place, the top literary event of the academic year, this book fair is held in September and offers an overview the latest in literature, along with exhibits, conferences and opportunities to meet and request autographs from 350 writers, already famous or young and full of potential. |
| - |
La Fête de la Saint Nicolas, held on the first Sunday in December, is a celebration of Saint Nicolas, fuelling the dreams of young and old alike, with sleigh parades, free sweets and fireworks. The month of December is also a time for countless live events, like the Christmas Markets. |
| - |
Les Nancyphonies : the great names in classical music come to Nancy to deliver heartrending concerts. 50 special concerts held in the region’s most gorgeous sites are an invitation to discover or re-discover Nancy, to the sound of the masterpieces of classical music. |
| - |
Le Festival international de chant choral, held every 2 years, brings together 2 000 choir singers and a vast array of companies from nearly 50 different countries to perform in the metropolitan area. | |
