MIPI: a network working for research into innovative materials for the smart products of the future
MIPI is a centre of competitiveness for the designing, producing and processing of high-performance materials which will offer the markets of the future innovative, lasting solutions.
Officially supported by the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and the land of Saar, led by top international groups including ARCELOR, MITTAL STEEL and SAINT GOBAIN PAM, approved by CEA, the CNRS, CNAM, and the INRIA, the MIPI Centre is supported by all of the Region's local authorithies.
Based around 3 unifying projects, it will be mobilising and co-ordinating the Lorraine-based economic actors in a strategy of ongoing innovation aiming to produce Innovative Materials and Smarts Products.
"Materials solutions": answer to what people actually need
Drawing support from current fields of research carried out by actors at the centre, MIPI is showing its first major commitments: three additional large-scale development projects each over a period of 3 years.
- Attractive, competitive steel solutions using sustainable processes - producing better goods which last longer.
- Fast, smart tools - better and more efficient processing.
- New materials for the markets of the future - taking advantage of the contribution made by nanotechnologies.
With almost 1,800 reserachers, 3,000 business employing over 70,000 people, the MIPI centre is developing an economic power comparable to that of the largest German, Japones or American projects.
